What Got Built

KB built an agency to six figures. Then it crashed.

In The Shed started as mentorship. Giveton Gelin (trumpet, played with Immanuel Wilkins) wanted to learn how to be a professional. KB had the business expertise. They built InTheShed.Live in 2022.

What they discovered: musicians at the highest level โ€” NEA Jazz Masters, people who played with Coltrane, Blakey, Morgan โ€” don't need better music education. They need distribution.

The gap wasn't skill. The gap was infrastructure.

Jazz musicians average 10-20 years of formal training. Conservatory degrees. Technical ability that exceeds virtually any other genre. But they earn 1/10th what pop musicians with comparable audiences make.

Not because the music is worse. Because jazz never got the distribution upgrade every other genre got in the last twenty years.

Labels. Playlist algorithms. Social media teams. Content infrastructure. Brand deals. Merchandise pipelines.

Hip-hop went from underground in 1985 to 27% market share today. Not because the music changed. Because the infrastructure changed.

Jazz stayed on 1960s distribution. Market share dropped from 30% to 1%. The tradition didn't decline. The bridge to the world did.
